The status bar allows learners to keep track of their progress at any time and navigate through the course in a targeted manner.

Benefits of the status bar

  • Overview: Learners can see where they are in the course at a glance via an icon in the status bar.
  • Progress visualization: A colored marking clearly shows which course sections have already been successfully completed.
  • Clear goal orientation: The status bar always informs learners which content they still need to complete in order to successfully finish the course. This allows them to focus on relevant content.

Enable status bar

  1. Choose the uppermost level (the course) in the Sitemap tab.
  2. Enable or disable the status bar in the settings on the right-hand side using Course > Settings > Status bar:
  • Show for this course: This option enables the status bar for the course even if the option not to show it was set in the layout theme.
  • Don't show for this course: This option disables the status bar for the course.
  • As defined in the theme: In the layout theme, you can specify whether the status bar should be displayed by default or not. Depending on the setting in the selected layout theme, “show” or “don't show” is added to this option.

Features of the status bar

The status bar, divided into the individual chapters of the course, is automatically displayed at the bottom of the screen when a course includes more than one learning objective. Using the status bar, learners can see where they are in the course and which sections have already been successfully completed. When hovering over individual sections of the status bar, the current completion progress of the chapter is displayed as a percentage. Here, learners also see the image set for the Learning Objective background and the short description for the Learning objective, if available. The corresponding section in the status bar is highlighted in color once all relevant content has been viewed and questions correctly answered in that course section.

Chapters that are optional for learners are shown in a lighter color to distinguish them from mandatory chapters.
Learners can also use the bar to jump directly to chapters and individual sections. By clicking the info icon next to the status bar, learners can view the course completion requirements, i.e., whether they need to view all content or answer questions correctly.
For sections that include scored questions, an animated feedback appears above the status bar when they have been answered correctly.

Information for course creation

The status bar is available in courses with scroll navigation or navigation by pagination at bottom (not for the tile layout).
On mobile devices, the status bar is not displayed to make optimal use of the available space.
