Creating e-learnings from existing PDF documents can be an efficient method to transform learning materials, technical documentation, brochures, or manuals and guides into an interactive self-learning format. In this article, you will learn how to create courses from PDF files in Knowledgeworker Create using the AI assistant KAI automatically.

Before you start

PDF documents are usually text-rich and contain detailed information. The clearer the document is structured, the better KAI can derive an outline for a course and its contents. KAI also considers additional structures contained in written publications before and after the actual content and transforms the texts from the PDF document into a structure suitable for e-learning. Typically, parts of the document such as the table of contents are omitted.

Step 1: Upload PDF file

Upload the PDF file from your computer to Knowledgeworker Create.

  1. Select Create new course.
  2. Click on the link Uploading a document and Get started.
  3. Upload the PDF document.
    • Drag the PDF file from your computer into the marked field, or
    • Click on the link Choose a file to search for a file in the directory.
  4. Choose the level of content flexibility:
    • Stay close to original: Creates course content based on existing documents if their wording should be adopted as far as possible.
    • Balanced: For a good mix of structure and text of the original content and creative adaptation.
    • Freely and creatively: Didactically refined e-learning content, even if the document was not developed for e-learning, e.g. technical documentation.
  5. If necessary, provide additional context information, such as the description of the Target audience or an assessment of the Knowledge level.
  6. Finally, click on Next.

KAI will then create a suggestion for the outline based on the contents of the PDF document. The creation of the outline by KAI may take a few minutes.

Step 2: Adjust the outline

You can adjust the outline created by KAI to your needs.

  1. Adjust the outline
    • Add additional chapters and subchapters
    • Adjust the naming of the chapters and subchapters
    • Remove unnecessary chapters or subchapters
  2. Finally, click on Create Course.

After creation, you can immediately switch to the Content Editor. There, you can add more interactions or have KAI create questions.
